Instagram continues to explode in social media usage, with the company now reporting 300 million Monthly Active Users, 70 million average photos/day and 2.5 billion likes/day. Instagram also reports that 70% of their users are outside of the United States. Meanwhile Pew Internet reports that 26% of Internet Users in the U.S. are using Instagram, with higher usage in key younger demographic segments.

Consumers and businesses alike are recognizing the growing importance of this visual content medium.  For consumers, it means “snapping and shaping” images and videos for Instagram.  For businesses, it entails coming up with strategies and tactics to engage consumers with owned content, to generate positive earned content and to explore expanding paid content opportunities with Instagram.

Examples of Instagram Business Usage

Using their owned content, small and large businesses alike are using Instagram to share their brand stories and engage with customers.  For example, Wisconsin-based restauranteur AJBombers, with Madison and Milwaukee locations, is using Instagram in various ways as demonstrated below:

While not an example from AJBombers, Nostrana, a Portland, OR restaurant has used Hyperlapse a relatively new Instagram iOs technology to showcase their rotisserie chicken as seen below:

Instagram Business Tip #8 – Embed Popular Instagram Images

I’ve embedded the Instagram images from AJ Bombers to demonstrate content ideas for business use of Instagram.  Doing this is fairly easy with Instagram providing a unique embed code for every image on a user’s account.  To embed the Instagram image you’ll need to get the code as indicated in the two images below:

Note: For WordPress, you can embed an instagram image using the unique page identifier.  For example, the holiday message uses the following embed code http://instagram.com/p/wl0OVrLZDw/ on this WordPress blog/website.
